The Centre for Political and Diplomatic Studies (CPDS) designs and conducts programmes of professional development for diplomats, civil servants, corporate executives and politicians.

Each of these programmes is designed in consultation with a particular government or institution to meet specific objectives, whether for new entrants, team leaders, ambassadors or ministers.

All CPDS programmes are interactive, offering opportunities for developing individual and team skills. Exercises are based in current international issues in real time, updated continually.

The directing staff serving as mentors are themselves senior diplomats drawing on a wealth of personal professional experience as directors general at headquarters and heads of mission abroad.

Created in 1993, over the past twenty years CPDS has developed a series of highly successful specialist courses in seven main areas of diplomatic practice:

CPDS has directed for the past fifteen years the British Foreign& Commonwealth Office’s principal programmes of training in policy and political work. Similar programmes are conducted each year in more than a dozen countries in Europe, the Middle East, Africa, Asia-Pacific and Latin America.

Courses in multilateral diplomacy are delivered to newly-elected members of the United Nations Security Council, to the rotating Presidency of the Council of the EU, and to the European External Action Service.

CPDS also provides training for multinational corporations. Courses have been developed in government relations for a number of multinational corporations
